ARK Invest has moved its $1.3 billion ARK Venture Fund (ARKVX) onto the Ethereum blockchain, utilizing Securitize's tokenization infrastructure. This represents the first ARK fund to adopt blockchain-based settlement and represents a material test of on-chain private market infrastructure at scale.
The ARKVX fund holds exposure to private companies including OpenAI, Anthropic, Stripe and Databricks alongside public-market positions. Securitize provides the technology layer that represents fund interests as tokens on Ethereum, enabling programmable transfer and settlement mechanics without restructuring the underlying securities.
The critical distinction: tokenization applies to fund interests themselves, not to the underlying private companies. ARKVX's investment strategy and legal structure remain unchanged. The blockchain serves as an administrative and settlement layer only.
This operational approach—tokenizing the wrapper rather than the contents—addresses a structural pain point in private markets: fragmented, non-programmable ownership records and settlement processes. Traditional private funds rely on legacy systems for subscriptions, transfers and NAV calculations. Ethereum-based token transfers can theoretically compress settlement timelines and reduce administrative friction.
However, tokenization does not automatically resolve two persistent constraints: liquidity restrictions and investor eligibility rules remain embedded in the fund's governing documents and regulatory classification. The legal and regulatory structures governing private investments largely persist on-chain.
ARK's move follows its 2025 strategic investment in Securitize, establishing the commercial relationship that enabled this deployment. The timing reflects broader institutional adoption of blockchain infrastructure—BlackRock's BUIDL fund and tokenized offerings from Franklin Templeton and WisdomTree are tracking similarly.
ARKVX's deployment pushes this trend into venture capital, a category historically characterized by operational friction. A $1.3 billion strategy now serves as a live test case for whether blockchain-based tokenization can become standard infrastructure for mainstream private market products.
