President Donald Trump on Saturday announced the formation of an "AI Force," publicly rejecting concerns about artificial intelligence risks. In a Truth Social post, Trump stated: "We will not in any way hinder or stifle the Growth of this incredible Industry. Rather, we will cherish it, help it, and watch over it, as it grows! However, we will also be looking for BAD, and we can do that, very easily, with our already existing Criminal and Civil Justice System."
Trump dismissed worries that AI could evolve into a superintelligence posing a threat to humanity, calling such fears a "hoax." He characterized AI as "the next Industrial Revolution, or Internet," projecting it could represent as much as 25 percent of U.S. GDP.
The administration intends to appoint an "AI Czar" in the near future to oversee AI development and integration across sectors. In December 2024, Trump appointed David Sacks as "White House A.I. Crypto Czar."
Sacks, in a recent CBS News interview, expressed his belief that fears about AI threatening humanity are overstated. While he acknowledged that caution is warranted, he maintained that AI development should proceed.
Those concerns have grown louder. On Sept. 8, Jacob Coxon, a former researcher at Anthropic, warned that both Anthropic and OpenAI are "gambling with our lives" through their development of self-improving superintelligence. Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, has urged the industry to slow its development pace, telling CBS News "Sunday Morning" that "there are real dangers" associated with AI and that the "industry lied to people about the fact that this technology had risks."
