Kubernetes has become the default platform for container orchestration across enterprises, and with it comes a mounting data security problem.

As companies deploy AI and machine-learning workloads on Kubernetes clusters, the data these systems generate and process has grown exponentially more valuable—and more vulnerable. A single breach can cascade into years of infrastructure remediation costs, data loss, or complete service outages.

A whitepaper published April 30 by Dayanand Patil identifies five backup practices designed to address Kubernetes' unique data management demands. The core argument: standard backup approaches, built for traditional infrastructure, do not account for container orchestration's distributed nature or the speed at which workloads spin up and down.

One fundamental practice is Infrastructure as Code (IaC). Organizations that version-control Kubernetes resources—Deployments, Services, ConfigMaps, Secrets—alongside application code gain a consistent audit trail and can recover configurations quickly in the event of corruption or misconfiguration.
