SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Jazz agreed to a five-year, $157.5 million contract extension with guard Keyonte George on Friday, locking in the 22-year-old as a centerpiece of the franchise's near-term competitive window.
The deal includes no team or player option, committing both sides fully through its term. Jazz president of basketball operations Austin Ainge negotiated with George's agent, Jason Ranne of The Team.
George, the 16th overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, posted a breakout 2023-24 season with career-best averages of 23.6 points and 6.1 assists per game. He shot 45.6 percent from the field and 37.1 percent from three.
At roughly 16 percent of the team's salary cap, the extension represents a significant commitment to George's development and production. It marks a clear pivot from Utah's rebuilding phase toward immediate competitiveness.
The Jazz have made three aggressive moves this offseason to signal that shift: locking up George, drafting point guard Darryn Peterson second overall, and acquiring two-time All-Star power forward Jaren Jackson Jr. at the trade deadline. The three-pronged strategy aims to build a roster capable of playoff contention.
