MINNEAPOLIS — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent Michael Vance faces two felony charges: third-degree assault and making a false statement to law enforcement. He has been held without bail at the Hennepin County Adult Detention Center since his court appearance Sept. 15.
Vance is accused of physically assaulting a civilian during an off-duty altercation on Aug. 28 in downtown Minneapolis. According to court documents, he then gave responding officers a false account that included a claim of a shooting. Investigators determined no shooting occurred.
A judge set bail conditions at Vance's Sept. 15 appearance, but he has not met them. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 10.
ICE confirmed Vance's employment but declined to comment on the criminal investigation. The agency said it is cooperating with the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office and prosecutors and has launched a separate internal administrative review. This marks the third felony charge against an ICE agent in Minnesota in two years.
