Insta360 launched its Luna Pro gimbal camera globally on Sept. 10, priced at $599.99 for the Standard Bundle. The device targets creators producing vertical content for TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts—a market segment growing faster than horizontal video consumption.

The Luna Pro pairs a 1-inch sensor with a Leica Summicron 20mm-equivalent F1.8 lens and records 8K at 30 fps with Dolby Vision. It also supports 4K at up to 120 fps and 1080p at up to 240 fps, enabling slow-motion effects. The camera includes 10-bit I-Log for color grading flexibility in post-production.

The key differentiation is native 4K vertical recording at 4K/30fps in 9:16 orientation, achieved through 6K oversampling. Users can also record vertical video at up to 3K/60fps. This eliminates the horizontal-shoot-then-crop workflow that plagues most creators on platforms optimized for portrait aspect ratios.

Insta360 equipped the camera with three-axis mechanical stabilization and AI-powered Deep Track and Rapid Focus tools. These features automatically keep selected subjects in frame and maintain focus as they move—critical for solo creators without dedicated camera operators.

The Luna Pro features a detachable 2-inch OLED touchscreen that doubles as a wireless remote, allowing creators to monitor shots and adjust settings remotely.

The camera sits below Insta360's dual-lens Luna Ultra and competes directly with DJI's Osmo Pocket 4. While the Luna Pro offers 8K recording and native vertical 4K—features DJI's competing model lacks—DJI products retain advantages in image quality and dynamic range, according to reviewers.
