Coinbase and payments infrastructure provider Moov announced a partnership September 10 to integrate stablecoin payment capabilities directly into more than 1,000 U.S. community banks and credit unions.
Coinbase will supply its Payments API and custodial wallets. Moov will distribute the integrated stack to participating institutions, enabling them to offer stablecoin acceptance, real-time settlement and custody without building proprietary infrastructure.
The timing aligns with two regulatory catalysts: an anticipated vote on the CLARITY Act, which would classify digital assets as either securities (SEC) or commodities (CFTC), and the proposed GENIUS Act, a stablecoin-specific framework governing issuers, reserves and audit standards.
For Coinbase, the deal expands its institutional footprint beyond direct trading into traditional banking operations. For Moov, it adds digital-asset payment rails to its platform. For the participating banks and credit unions, it offers a turnkey path to offer new payment services without duplicative development costs.
