Circle has signed an agreement to acquire Singapore-based cross-border payments firm Tazapay in an all-stock transaction valued at $400 million, subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals. The agreement, disclosed in a Form 8-K filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Sept. 4, aims to integrate Tazapay's local payout rails and banking relationships into Circle's payment business. This marks Circle's largest acquisition since its purchase of crypto exchange Poloniex in 2018.
Tazapay processes more than $25 billion in annualized payment volume and collaborates with over 60 banking and fintech partners to provide payout coverage across more than 100 markets. As of July 31, 2026, over 60 percent of its payment volume was settled using stablecoins.
The acquisition expands Circle's operational reach across APAC, Southeast Asia and South Asia—regions showing the fastest growth in cross-border payment demand. While USDC facilitates on-chain movement, businesses require connections to traditional financial systems. Tazapay provides links to local banks, payment systems and payout networks, allowing the digital dollar to convert into usable local currency.
Circle intends to embed USDC deeper into global commerce by leveraging Tazapay's established network. "This acquisition allows us to originate and terminate payments in emerging markets where USDC adoption is already taking place," said Irfan Ganchi, Circle's senior vice president of payments, in a LinkedIn post.
The integration simplifies cross-border transactions for businesses, allowing companies to accept, hold, convert and pay out funds internationally using USDC without building individual payment connections in each market.
Tazapay has functioned as a design partner for the Circle Payments Network since 2025. Earlier this year, Circle Ventures led Tazapay's $36 million Series B extension round, alongside Coinbase Ventures and CMT Digital. Circle confirmed there will be no immediate changes to Tazapay's products or APIs for existing customers.
