Arm introduced its CSS for Mobile 2 platform, designed to run persistent agentic AI and neural-accelerated graphics on smartphones. The platform bundles the Mali G2-Ultra NX GPU, the C2 CPU cluster with SME2, and enhanced system IP.
The Mali G2-Ultra NX marks the first Mali GPU to embed dedicated neural accelerators alongside graphics pipelines. When paired with Arm Neural Technology, the GPU achieves up to 4x higher performance per watt for neural graphics workloads and up to 14 percent higher performance on existing game content compared to the previous generation.
The architecture reflects a fundamental shift in mobile compute. Advanced AI agents must maintain context across applications, run multiple models in parallel, and coordinate services—all within a smartphone's power and thermal budget. Tightly integrating neural processing with graphics pipelines allows workloads to execute where graphics data already resides, reducing data movement and power overhead.
Arm is positioning neural-accelerated rendering as an alternative to traditional rasterization. The approach enables devices to reconstruct, enhance, and generate visual details locally rather than streaming pre-rendered assets. For game developers, this unlocks higher-resolution, more complex scenes without proportional increases in bandwidth or battery drain. The GPU also features a new execution engine and next-generation Ray Tracing Unit for modern game engine requirements.
The business logic is clearer than the prose: Arm is betting that on-device neural processing will become the dominant mobile workload. Silicon partners get a reference architecture to differentiate products. Game studios and app developers gain a standardized platform to deploy AI features across millions of devices. End users receive more responsive, personalized experiences without constant cloud connectivity.
Arm collaborated with Sumo Digital on a demonstration called "Neural Dawn" showcasing the new graphics capabilities. Leading game engines are currently integrating Arm Neural Technology.
