Wintermute, one of the largest algorithmic market makers in digital assets, has accumulated a position exceeding $3 million in PONS tokens. Blockchain analytics firm Arkham Intelligence identified this accumulation on Sept. 5, noting the firm's holdings grew from approximately $2 million to more than $3 million.

The purchases were executed incrementally on Uniswap, utilizing a time-weighted average price (TWAP) strategy. This method spreads trades across various time intervals to minimize price impact on the order book.

PONS functions as both the governance and utility token for Pons, a launchpad platform operating on Robinhood Chain, which went live on July 1, 2026. Pons leads its ecosystem in trading volume and daily active addresses.

The PONS token has experienced rapid price appreciation. It traded near $0.003 in mid-July before climbing above $0.50 by early September, a gain of approximately 16,000 percent in less than two months.

Pons generates revenue through launchpad operations, with a portion directed toward token buybacks and burns. This creates a deflationary feedback loop where increased platform activity reduces circulating supply.

Arkham noted that Wintermute has not disclosed a market-making mandate for PONS. In a typical market-making arrangement, firms like Wintermute receive compensation from a project or foundation through token loans or fee structures. The absence of such a mandate suggests Wintermute holds a proprietary position, indicating the firm sees intrinsic value in the asset for its own book.
