Anker unveiled the Eufy MindBase, a local AI hub for its security cameras, at IFA in Berlin this week. The device runs an Anker-developed large language model on-device, processing footage without sending it to the cloud.
The core bet is economic: eliminate recurring software fees by moving intelligence to the edge. The MindBase offers natural-language search and event summaries without a monthly subscription—a direct challenge to cloud-dependent competitors whose gross margins depend on user lock-in and recurring revenue. Eufy previously faced scrutiny over encryption claims; the MindBase's design represents a strategic pivot toward local processing and end-to-end encryption as a differentiator.
Hardware specifications support this model: a dedicated AI chip and up to 48TB of expandable local storage enable complex event processing directly on the device. The hub will support 16 wireless cameras, four wired cameras and 34 sensors, with capacity to handle facial recognition, people, car, pet and stranger detection. Digital credentials stored on household members' phones reduce false alerts.
Anker is positioning the MindBase as a central controller beyond security. The roadmap includes an energy agent for power management and a clean agent for robot vacuums, building toward a home automation backbone.
The hub operates as a Matter 1.5 controller supporting over 40 device categories—lights, sensors, HVAC systems. Connectivity includes dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Thread and Zigbee. Anker has also integrated with Apple HomeKit Secure Video, Amazon Alexa, Google Home and Home Assistant, broadening ecosystem compatibility.
The initial product tier is the Eufy TrackLight Cam S1, available as part of a MindBase Security Kit, featuring active deterrence, auto-tracking light, 180-degree dual-radar detection and 4K resolution. The hub will support existing Eufy cameras like the eufyCam S4 and the new wired Eufy S4 video doorbell.
Janet Jin, Eufy Security spokesperson, said the company plans to support Matter-compatible third-party cameras, signaling an open ecosystem approach rather than proprietary lock-in.
