On-chain data shows 661 BTC valued at $51.3 million moved from Coinbase Institutional to an unidentified wallet. The transfer is one of four discrete Bitcoin outflows from the platform recorded today.
The outflows together moved significant volume. Earlier transactions included 781 BTC, 1,492 BTC and 803 BTC leaving Coinbase Institutional for unknown wallets. The 1,492 BTC transfer alone was valued at roughly $96.7 million at the time of the move.
Coinbase Institutional services hedge funds, asset managers and corporate treasuries. When Bitcoin moves to an unidentified wallet, the destination is typically a self-custody address rather than a competing exchange — the wallet carries no exchange label on-chain.
Large outflows reduce the supply of Bitcoin in named exchange-controlled wallets. Coins leaving an exchange are not immediately available for sale on that platform. Bitcoin held in self-custody does not appear in exchange reserve tallies, which traders use as a proxy for near-term sell pressure.
Today's Bitcoin movement occurred alongside heavy on-chain activity. The USDC Treasury minted 250 million USDC three separate times — at 20:27, 20:29 and 00:43 — for a combined $750 million in new issuance. Large USDC minting historically precedes spot Bitcoin purchases.
102,649,248 USDC moved from an unknown wallet into Coinbase around 20:26, shortly before two of the three USDC minting events. That sequence — stablecoin arriving at an exchange followed by fresh treasury minting — is consistent with institutional preparation for a purchase, though on-chain data alone does not confirm the final destination of those funds.
The Aave protocol recorded a round-trip at 23:36 when 168 million USDC moved to an unknown whale address. At 00:10, 168,027,752 USDC returned to Aave. Flows of that size through a lending protocol suggest a short-duration borrowing event or a liquidity test rather than a directional trade.
On the Tether side, 150 million USDT moved from Bitfinex to Tether Treasury at 08:29, followed immediately by 150 million USDT returning at 08:31. The two-minute round trip is consistent with a treasury management operation Tether runs periodically to reconcile reserve balances.
Separately, 1,790 BTC valued at $115.7 million moved between two unknown wallets at 10:37. A further 1,191 BTC worth $77 million left Kraken for an unknown wallet at 10:39. Neither destination carries an exchange label on-chain, placing both transfers in the same category as the Coinbase Institutional outflows — Bitcoin moving into private custody.
The Crypto Fear and Greed Index sits at 62, in Greed territory. Bitcoin is leaving named exchange addresses at a steady pace across multiple platforms today.
