Philadelphia Phillies infielder Edmundo Sosa delivered career-high offensive numbers in both the 2024 and 2025 seasons.
In 2025, Sosa achieved single-season career highs with 11 home runs and 39 RBI while posting a.281 batting average,.313 on-base percentage and.492 slugging percentage with an.807 OPS across 66 starts and 236 plate appearances. He reached double-digit home runs for the second time in his career, matching his 2023 total. Six of his 11 home runs came against left-handed pitchers, against whom he slashed.318/.362/.533 in 116 plate appearances.
Sosa's 2025 season included a five-game multi-hit streak from March 29 to April 6, making him the first Phillie since Ryan Howard and Placido Polanco in 2010 to open a season with five multi-hit games. He made his first career outfield start in left field on April 8 against Atlanta, where he robbed Marcell Ozuna of a home run in the first inning.
On June 22 against the New York Mets, his 430-foot home run was the second-farthest opposite field shot by a right-handed hitter at Citizens Bank Park in the Statcast era, which began in 2015. He recorded his first career walk-off RBI on July 21 against Boston, reaching base via catcher's interference, only the second such walk-off in MLB's live ball era since 1920.
On July 26 at Yankee Stadium, Sosa hit the hardest home run of his career with an exit velocity of 110.6 mph. He became the first Phillies shortstop in franchise history to hit three home runs in a single game on Sept. 24 against Miami, his first multi-home run performance. He tied a career high with five RBI in that Sept. 24 game, his first contest back after a 10-day injured list stint for a right groin strain.
Defensively in 2025, Sosa appeared at second base in 33 games with 28 starts, third base in 33 games with 24 starts, shortstop in 19 games with 13 starts, left field in two games with one start, and center field in one game.
In 2024, Sosa set single-season career highs with 31 RBI and seven stolen bases. He tied career bests with 39 runs scored and four triples while slashing.272/.325/.452 in 68 games as a starter, with the Phillies posting a 41-27 record in those contests.
He reached base safely in a career-high 12 consecutive games from May 3-17, during which he posted a.344 batting average,.475 on-base percentage,.531 slugging percentage and a 1.006 OPS. His four triples in May were the most by a Phillies batter in that month since Jimmy Rollins recorded five in May 2007.
Sosa registered an extra-base hit in four straight games from May 22-25, including two doubles, a triple and two home runs. His 439-foot home run on May 31 against St. Louis was the first to land in Ashburn Alley by a Phillie since Darick Hall in July 2022. Another home run on Aug. 31 against Atlanta traveled 450 feet, marking the farthest of his career and the longest by a Phillie at Citizens Bank Park in 2024.
During Trea Turner's injured list stint from May 4-June 16, Sosa reached base safely in 28 of 32 games, slashing.275/.336/.505 with an.841 OPS over 120 plate appearances. Defensively in 2024, he appeared at shortstop in 48 games with 38 starts, third base in 23 games with 13 starts, and second base in 20 games with 17 starts.
