The Minnesota Twins are calling up outfielder Walker Jenkins to the major leagues for his debut Friday against the Chicago White Sox. The move comes as the team navigates a 1-5 record on a recent West Coast road trip and manages significant injuries to All-Stars pitcher Joe Ryan and outfielder Byron Buxton.
Jenkins, 21, was selected fifth overall in the 2023 draft. He is recognized for five above-average or better tools and has performed strongly in Triple-A this season with a.323 batting average,.976 OPS, 14 home runs, 31 RBI and 56 runs scored.
Over the past couple months, Jenkins batted.411 with a 1.283 OPS, hitting 8 home runs and driving in 13 runs. In August alone, he posted a.406/.488/.768 slash line.
With Buxton sidelined, Jenkins provides an offensive boost and outfield depth for the struggling club. The Twins made corresponding roster moves to accommodate him on both the active 26-man roster and the 40-man roster.
