Porsche launched the 992.2 GT3 and GT3 Touring in October 2024, marking 25 years of the modern GT3 line. The headline specs: a 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six producing 503 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque, with PDK-equipped models accelerating zero to 62 mph in 3.4 seconds and reaching 193 mph.
The manual-equipped Touring and the new GT3 S/C cabriolet—the first factory GT3 convertible ever—hit 62 mph in 3.9 seconds but top out at 194 mph. Top speed dropped from 199 mph in the previous generation, a concession to emissions regulations. Porsche engineers compensated by sourcing camshafts from the GT3 RS, extending cam duration and optimizing throttle flow. That work alone would have added roughly five horsepower, but emissions targets consumed the gain.
The car now carries four catalytic converters and two particulate filters. Despite this added hardware and the weight growth inherent in updating the 992 platform, the GT3 weighs 1,420 kg—just two kilograms more than the lightest outgoing model at 1,418 kg. Engineering projections had pegged the new car at 1,439 kg; careful component scrutiny shaved 19 kg from that estimate.
Suspension improvements address a fundamental dynamic compromise in high-performance cars. The GT3 inherits the aerodynamically shaped front trailing arm from the RS with a lower pivot point that improves anti-dive geometry. In a full emergency stop from 124 mph, the previous GT3's nose dived 12 millimeters. The new car dives six millimeters under identical conditions—a 50 percent reduction. Shorter bump stops increase suspension travel, and a new RS-derived damper strategy improves curb-strike absorption.
Fuel consumption for the Touring is rated at 20.7 mpg with 310 grams of CO2 per kilometer. Real-world mixed driving yields around 24 mpg when driven below the 9,000-rpm redline.
Porsche expanded configuration options with new Weissach and Lightweight packages alongside the Touring specification and cabriolet. GT3 program boss Andreas Preuninger said the decision to build the S/C convertible came directly from commercial success of the Touring, which proved GT3 buyers want engagement without austerity.
Pricing has risen sharply from the 992.1 generation, though exact figures remain unconfirmed.
The GT3's business model at Porsche is disciplined: it anchors the halo end of the 911 lineup, justifies premium pricing across the range and maintains track credibility without full motorsport program investment. The naturally aspirated engine is a rare asset in this segment. Every major competitor in the sub-$250,000 performance car category has moved to forced induction. Porsche has preserved the aspirated architecture through two full 992 generations by engineering around regulation rather than abandoning the design.
ADAS systems are now fitted to the 992.2 GT3, marking the other significant change alongside price. Integrating driver-assistance technology into a car built around unmediated driving feel remains a tension Porsche has not fully resolved, and early assessments identify this as a weak point.
The GT3 S/C cabriolet is the more commercially significant addition. Convertible variants of halo models consistently outperform coupes on resale values in the collector market, and a factory-built GT3 drop-top has no modern precedent. Whether Porsche allocates meaningful volume to the S/C or keeps it scarce will determine whether it performs as a revenue driver or a brand statement.
