Its design relies entirely on water-jet propulsion, guiding the robot on a random zigzag path across the floor. Without spinning brushes or motorized treads, the X1 cannot clean walls, the waterline, steps, or scrub surfaces—capabilities standard in higher-priced competitors.

This trade-off defines the business model. At the $100 price point, Poolease omits wireless connectivity, mobile app controls, and a traditional debris basket. Users operate the robot via single-button activation and maintain it manually: the chassis splits into two halves with a filter screen that captures debris, requiring users to unclip four fasteners, separate the unit, and rinse it with a hose.

Setup demands some assembly. Four caster wheels, two brush-like scrapers, and two plastic plates snap into place inside the device. The charging port—two bare metal posts in a narrow channel on the robot's bottom—requires flipping the unit, risking scratches to its purple finish. A rubber stopper covers the connection, but it's not tethered and easily misplaced, though a spare is included.

The 4300mAh battery charges in three hours via a 1.8 amp charger and provides approximately 90 minutes of runtime. Poolease specifies coverage up to 861 square feet, equivalent to a 30-by-30-foot pool—nearly double the size of typical residential pools for robots in this class.

The pool-cleaning robot market segments sharply by price and capability. High-end models cost thousands of dollars and offer comprehensive surface cleaning. The X1 competes solely on price in the sub-$500 segment, accepting significant functional gaps to hit its price target.

This creates a real operational constraint: fine silt quickly clogs the filter screen, requiring frequent rinsing. Larger debris—hair, pebbles, small twigs—can block the intake or impeller, reducing pickup performance. Fine silt typically requires chemical flocculants or dedicated handheld vacuums, as standard filtration systems miss particles at that size. For pools dealing with sediment-heavy water, the X1 becomes a floor-only solution, not a replacement for deeper maintenance.
