The film establishes Cole Reed's character through brutal, efficient combat. He smashes heads, snaps arms, and uses available cutting tools. One scene depicts him ripping a foe's cheek with a lock hook, then jabbing a dagger deeper into the same wound.
Reed's fighting sequences display remarkable speed and precision. In one instance, he engages a thug, pauses to machine-gun another, coldcocks the original assailant, and guns down two more, all within nine seconds.
The narrative opens in Bangkok's corporate world, where Tibu Campallo celebrates the sale of his company. Cole Reed drives Campallo from a party when they are ambushed, resulting in Campallo's death. The plot reveals a major conspiracy involving corrupt police, leaving the audience to question the involvement of Campallo's son, played by Chaneil Kular.
Cole Reed infiltrates the Artemis cargo ship, where one of the conspirators plans to escape. He must confront and eliminate 20 crew members during his pursuit. This confined setting intensifies the hand-to-hand combat.
Some critics found "Mutiny" formulaic. Reviews described the film as a "dull cargo ship ride" and a "slow boat to nowhere," suggesting it "wastes one of those gloriously uncomplicated action premises." Other assessments noted that if a viewer has "seen Jason Statham punch one guy on a boat, you've seen him punch 'em all," indicating a lack of novelty.
