Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold: Brighter Screens, Lighter Build, Higher Price

SAN FRANCISCO — Google launched the Pixel 11 Pro Fold at $1,899, a price increase over its predecessor, positioning the device against Samsung's latest short-and-wide foldable. Google kept the tall-and-narrow book-style design unchanged.

The outer display carries a Super Actua panel rated at 3,600 nits of peak brightness. Both the inner and outer screens are 20 percent brighter than the previous generation, Google said.

Google developed a gearless hinge for the Pixel 11 Pro Fold, which it said is three times more durable than the previous model. The new mechanism allows the device to sit one millimeter thinner than last year's model.

The phone weighs roughly 20 grams less than its predecessor. The weight reduction is likely tied to the smaller battery — the Pixel 11 Pro Fold ships with a 4,750 mAh cell, down from 5,015 mAh in the prior model.

The device supports 25W wireless charging, an increase over the previous generation. Wired charging specifications were not disclosed.

The camera system centers on an updated 48-megapixel main sensor that Google said captures more light than its predecessor across different lighting conditions. The Pixel 11 Pro Fold introduces a HiLight camera bar that supports glanceable LED notifications in addition to housing the camera array.

Digital zoom extends to 30x, up from 20x on last year's model. Google attributed the improvement to the new G6 Tensor chip and an updated image processor, not a change in optical hardware.

The phone ships in two colors: Olive and Obsidian. Google did not announce specific availability dates.

At $1,899, the Pixel 11 Pro Fold competes directly with Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold lineup. Samsung's foldable this cycle drew attention for adopting a shorter, wider form factor — a direction Google did not follow.

The broader Pixel 11 lineup includes the Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro and Pixel 11 Pro XL. Google cited a thinner camera bar, improved scratch resistance and faster charging as the primary hardware changes for those flat-screen models. Gemini AI features received emphasis across the entire lineup.

The G6 Tensor chip, designed in-house by Google, powers all Pixel 11 devices. Its image signal processor is the primary driver behind the zoom and low-light improvements cited for the Pro Fold.
