U.S. spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds recorded $61.16 million in net outflows on Aug. 12, while spot Ethereum ETFs pulled in $7.38 million in net inflows the same day.
The Aug. 12 redemptions follow a strong run for Bitcoin ETFs. Over the previous 10 trading days—July 29 through Aug. 11—U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs posted a combined $669.4 million in net inflows, averaging $66.9 million per day.
Single-day swings have been sharp. Aug. 4 logged the period's largest inflow at $356.4 million. July 31 flipped the other direction with $246.2 million in net outflows.
Those capital movements hit price directly. Research from Citi said every $100 million in net inflow correlates with a same-day price move of roughly 53 basis points, building to about 96 basis points over 10 trading days.
The mechanism is direct: ETF share creations require the issuer to buy spot Bitcoin on the open market. U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs collectively hold roughly 6 percent of all Bitcoin in circulation, making their flow data a critical signal for anyone holding positions.
BlackRock's IBIT posted $50.6 million in inflows on Aug. 11, frequently leading the product category. Fidelity's FBTC and Grayscale's GBTC have shown mixed results. GBTC registered a $53.3 million outflow on Aug. 10.
The $7.38 million inflow into spot Ethereum ETFs signals continued demand for regulated exposure to the second-largest digital asset. Those funds have been trading since May 2024.
Bitcoin is trading at $63,823, up 0.1 percent over 24 hours. Ethereum is at $1,894, up 0.2 percent. The Crypto Fear & Greed Index sits at 29, in Fear territory.
The Aug. 12 data shows capital rotating out of Bitcoin products and into Ethereum-focused funds—institutional portfolio rebalancing in real time.
