Paris Saint-Germain is nearing a deal to acquire Barcelona forward Ferran Torres, with the transfer expected to be finalized this week as the two clubs continue negotiating the fee.

Torres, 26, will not resume training with Hansi Flick's Barcelona squad while negotiations progress. Reports in July had already flagged uncertainty over his future at the club.

Barcelona is open to selling Torres in part because of a clause in his original transfer agreement with Manchester City: a contract renewal would trigger an €8 million payment to City. Selling him also prevents Torres from departing as a free agent at the end of the 2026-27 season.

Torres joined Barcelona from Manchester City in January 2022 for €55 million, with an additional €10 million in add-ons. Sporting director Deco was reportedly reluctant to offer Torres an extension given those financial implications.

His departure would leave Barcelona without both of last season's primary strikers. Robert Lewandowski also left after his contract expired.

Torres scored the winning goal for Spain in the World Cup final against Argentina, netting in the 106th minute to secure back-to-back major international titles for his country.

Last season, Torres scored 21 times in 49 appearances under Flick, operating both up front and on the wings. Since joining Barcelona, he has made 207 appearances, recording 65 goals and 23 assists. He contributed to the club's back-to-back La Liga titles and to their league success during the 2022-23 season.

Barcelona has already moved to address the offensive void. The club signed England winger Anthony Gordon, 25, from Newcastle for €80 million including potential add-ons in late May. German forward Karim Adeyemi also arrived from Borussia Dortmund for an initial €22 million plus add-ons. Barcelona's primary target for the No. 9 position remains Julian Alvarez of Atletico Madrid, though Atletico has said he is not for sale.

Torres has publicly indicated a desire to leave, which means Barcelona supporters are unlikely to push back hard on the exit.
