LOS ANGELES — Kyle Isbel hit a two-run home run for the Kansas City Royals in the top of the seventh inning Monday, Aug. 10, tying the game at 5-5 against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium. The California native sent the ball 370 feet into right field.
The Dodgers have lost 10 of their last 13 games and were outscored 46-25 during a recent seven-game skid.
Tarik Skubal started for the Dodgers, pitching five innings and allowing three earned runs on four hits while striking out six. He threw 95 pitches, 66 for strikes.
Kansas City took an early lead when Jac Caglianone hit a two-run home run in the top of the third inning, putting the Royals up 3-0. A fan who caught the ball threw it back onto the field.
The Dodgers responded in the bottom of the third. Shohei Ohtani hit a double to center field, scoring Hunter Feduccia for Los Angeles' first run. Freddie Freeman then produced a hit that scored Ohtani, cutting the deficit to 3-2.
Los Angeles took the lead in the sixth inning when Max Muncy doubled to right field, scoring Tommy Edman and Kyle Tucker to give the Dodgers a 5-3 advantage.
Muncy's night came after a pre-game ceremony in which he received a bobblehead and his children threw out the first pitch. Tommy Edman added a highlight catch that ended the sixth inning.
Dodgers pitching coach Mark Prior visited Skubal and catcher Hunter Feduccia on the mound during the fifth inning. Skubal finished the frame but did not return for the sixth.
The Dodgers recorded their 100th double play of the season in the second inning, initiated by Teoscar Hernandez — the most in MLB, according to Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic.
Isbel's seventh-inning shot erased the lead and left the Dodgers without a win they had in hand.
