Wipro Ltd. will exit India's benchmark Nifty 50 index, with exchange operator BSE Ltd. taking its place effective Sept. 30, 2026, after market close. Trading on the current composition concludes Sept. 29.

The Index Maintenance Sub-Committee (Equity) of NSE Indices Ltd. approved the swap during its semi-annual review after BSE's six-month average free-float market capitalization crossed the required threshold—Rs 1,40,879 crore against Wipro's Rs 55,930 crore.

The rebalancing will trigger asymmetric capital flows: passive funds tracking the Nifty 50 are projected to pull $246 million from Wipro and direct $741 million into BSE.

Wipro's exit ends a near-uninterrupted run in India's benchmark equity gauge for the Bengaluru-based IT services company. The departure coincides with sustained pressure on the IT sector—weak discretionary technology spending, slower client decision-making and declining growth in traditional outsourcing.

BSE's entry reflects the expanding investor base driving India's capital markets. The exchange operator benefits directly from rising equity participation and higher transaction volumes across the country's $5-trillion stock market.

The composition change captures a measurable divergence: capital market infrastructure now commands a free-float valuation more than 2.5 times that of one of India's largest IT exporters.

NSE Indices conducts these reviews every six months to keep the Nifty 50 aligned with the market's actual composition. The next review is due in six months.
