SAN FRANCISCO — PlenOptika's handheld, AI-powered vision diagnostic tools, QuickSee Free and QuickSee Free Pro, have enabled more than 10 million patient interactions globally since their launch in late 2023, operating in over 65 countries.

The devices perform automated vision assessments—known as objective refraction—outside traditional clinical settings. That capability addresses a concrete market failure: an estimated one billion people lack access to corrective eyeglasses, driven by a shortage of eye care providers and fixed clinic infrastructure.

Development of PlenOptika's second-generation autorefractor technology received funding from the Translational Research Institute for Space Health (TRISH), which focuses on medical devices that perform in extreme conditions.

The Fred Hollows Foundation, Sightsavers and Orbis International have used QuickSee Free in screening programs across Nepal, Sierra Leone, Mongolia, Uganda and India.

The device also deployed during the Polaris Dawn mission, validating its performance in autonomous, resource-constrained environments relevant to long-duration space exploration.
