PARK CITY, Utah — Police arrested a 38-year-old man on suspicion of murder after a fatal stabbing Aug. 7 on Deer Valley Drive. The victim, Damon Enman, 34, died from his injuries hours after calling emergency services.
Officers found Enman with a deep chest wound and suspect Austin Garceau, 38, with a cut on his arm at 505 Deer Valley Drive. Both men are from Salt Lake County, police said.
Enman told police before his death that Garceau said he would kill him and then grabbed a knife. Enman was taken to a hospital, where he died two hours later.
Witnesses in the home provided statements to police. One witness reported hearing Garceau call Enman a "reptilian" before stabbing him. The witness attempted to intervene, jumping on Garceau's back.
Garceau eventually dropped the knife and asked, "What did I do?" a witness said. A second witness said he had broken up a previous altercation between the two men before hearing Garceau retrieve a knife from a butcher block in the kitchen.
Police wrote in a probable cause statement that Garceau "made the decision that his friend needed to be killed and stabbed him multiple times." Officers requested a no-bail order for Garceau, citing his close friendship with the witnesses as a potential danger if he were released. Park City police continue to investigate.
SPRINGFIELD, Oregon — Police arrested Edgar Solorio Lopez, 36, in connection with a fatal stabbing Aug. 7 in the 2800 block of Gateway Street. Lopez is also suspected of involvement in a deadly hit-and-run collision the previous night.
Witnesses told police the stabbing occurred around 2 p.m. The victim, who police have not identified, was taken to a hospital and died. Lopez fled the scene in a white SUV; a witness provided real-time updates on his location to police.
Springfield officers and an Oregon State Police trooper located Lopez outside a white 2011 Nissan Murano. Police said the vehicle had damage consistent with the hit-and-run collision Aug. 6.
The hit-and-run, which occurred at 8:56 p.m. near Sixth and G streets, killed Randall Alan Fultz, 73, and critically injured Pamela Anne Fultz, 73. The married couple was struck twice by the SUV.
Deputy Chief George Crolly said police are exploring whether the hit-and-run was an intentional act, an accident, or involved an impaired driver. Crolly also said the absence of Flock cameras would have been useful for the investigation.
Lopez was booked into Lane County Jail on suspicion of second-degree murder. Police released an image of Lopez and asked the public to call 541-726-3714 with any information regarding his movements Thursday or Friday. Both investigations are ongoing.
