WASHINGTON — The Republican Party will hold its first midterm convention in Dallas, Texas, a move President Trump described as a "truly Historic Event" aimed at outlining the party's 2026 priorities and celebrating what he called "the GREAT AMERICAN COMEBACK."
Trump said the convention will highlight "the incredible successes of the American People who transformed our Country through the America First Agenda." He listed nine specific issues: no tax on tips, no tax on overtime, no tax on Social Security, stronger borders, safer communities, lower costs, more jobs and American energy dominance — including dropping oil prices and denuclearizing Iran.
The gathering is a strategic push to shore up Republican prospects in the 2026 midterms. Internal guidance from the conservative firm co/efficient, prepared for House Republicans, advises framing opponents as "communists" or "socialists" to help the party hold its majority.
The strategy memo explicitly lays out a plan to paint "democratic socialists" as communists — an approach the memo acknowledges comes as Trump and the Republican Party face widespread disapproval.
Michigan GOP communications director Ted Goodman said the convention gives Trump and the party a platform to showcase their record. Goodman said "communist/socialist candidates are winning in low turnout elections" and argued the convention can counter those gains. He also said "the legacy media has suppressed Trump's accomplishments in his second term."
Unlike past Democratic midterm conventions, the Republican event will not allow delegates to vote on issues. It will focus instead on celebrating the agenda points Trump outlined.
