USA Basketball announced its women's national team roster for the FIBA World Cup on Thursday, headlining four players making their senior national team debuts.
Caitlin Clark, Paige Bueckers, Aliyah Boston and Angel Reese are all in. The FIBA World Cup runs Sept. 4-13 in Berlin, Germany.
This is a youth movement, plain and simple. Clark, Bueckers, Boston and Reese arrive with real credentials from their college and early professional careers, and they slot into a roster that already has proven international players.
Kahleah Cop Chelsea Gray, Kelsey Plum and Jackie Young were part of the 2024 Paris Olympics roster and the March 2026 World Cup qualifier roster. That experience matters when games get tight on an international stage.
The U.S. women's team will go for its fifth consecutive FIBA World Cup title.
USA Basketball also formally announced the men's national team coaching staff Thursday. Erik Spoelstra will serve as head coach, with Mark Daigneault, J.B. Bickerstaff and Mark Few on his staff. The appointments had been reported Tuesday; USA Basketball's board of governors gave formal consent Thursday.
Spoelstra's staff will lead the men's program through the 2027 FIBA World Cup in Doha and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
