Nanny Describes Lindsay Clancy's Rapid Decline Before Children's Deaths

PLYMOUTH, Mass. — Lindsay Clancy exhibited severe mental health problems, significant weight loss and insomnia in the months before she allegedly strangled her three children, a former nanny testified at her murder trial Wednesday.

The nanny said Clancy had lost a noticeable amount of weight and could not sleep, and that Clancy complained of postpregnancy mental health struggles. Before that decline, the nanny said, Clancy appeared to be a loving mother.

Clancy is charged with killing her three children — ages five, three and eight months — in Duxbury, Mass. in Jan. 2023. She has pleaded not guilty.

The defense is expected to use testimony about Clancy's mental state to argue diminished capacity or mental illness. The prosecution will seek to establish that she acted with intent.
