WASHINGTON — Democratic lawmakers have asked the Pentagon's watchdog to investigate federal contracts awarded to companies backed by President Trump's sons, citing potential conflicts of interest.

Fifteen companies linked to Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump received $3.2 billion in federal contracts, investments and loans across multiple U.S. agencies, including the Department of Defense. Lawmakers want to know whether the Trump family's business interests shaped those awards.

In a letter to the Pentagon inspector general, the lawmakers called for a thorough probe into the decision-making behind each contract and loan. They cited concerns about fair competition and undue influence in the awarding of government funds, and asked for a review of whether proper procurement protocols were followed and ethical guidelines observed.

The inspector general's office now faces pressure to define the scope and timeline of any investigation. A finding of impropriety could trigger congressional hearings and calls for accountability. The office is expected to respond to the request within the coming weeks.
