Repeating as champions in any major sport is nearly impossible. The Los Angeles Dodgers have done it anyway.

The Dodgers secured consecutive World Series championships in 2024 and 2025, the first MLB team to win back-to-back titles since the New York Yankees. New York won three straight from 1998 to 2000, capping a run of four championships in five years that began in 1996.

The difficulty extends beyond baseball. In men's World Cup history, only two nations have successfully defended their title: Italy in 1934 and 1938, and Brazil in 1958 and 1962. No men's World Cup champion has repeated since Brazil's 1962 victory.

Argentina, the 2022 World Cup champions, are alive in the 2026 knockout rounds, chasing the first successful title defense in more than six decades.

The NBA presents the same wall. The Oklahoma City Thunder, fresh off a championship, now face the challenge of repeating—a task no team has found easy in the modern era.

The Dodgers' back-to-back titles stand as the clearest proof of how rare sustained dominance has become.
