The Baltimore Orioles opened a critical week with an 8-5 win over Detroit at Comerica Park, hitting three home runs in the process.
The victory adds weight to Baltimore's case ahead of the Aug. 3 trade deadline, with the club looking to prove it can contend.
The Orioles also took the series opener in Toronto, 13-3, rallying from a 3-1 deficit in the sixth inning and pulling away from there.
That blowout followed a rough outing against the Chicago White Sox, who beat Baltimore 8-2 in their series opener. Colson Montgomery hit a go-ahead double in the eighth inning, and Jacob Gonzalez drove in three runs.
Earlier in the season, the Orioles salvaged a series against the Twins, rallying from a 4-0 deficit in the fourth inning of the rubber game.
The lineup has also shifted at third base. Coby Mayo has been out of the starting lineup for four of the last six games. Blaze Alexander has stepped into that role, starting at third and batting eighth in a recent series opener against Seattle.
