ST. LOUIS — Alec Burleson has quietly become one of the St. Louis Cardinals' most reliable offensive producers this season.
Across 104 games, the outfielder is batting.289 with an.819 OPS. He has hit 15 home runs, driven in 71 runs, scored 56 runs and collected 26 doubles, one triple and three stolen bases.
Burleson went 2-for-4 against the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday, hitting his 15th home run of the season along with a double and three RBI.
He followed that with a 3-for-4 performance Saturday against the Cincinnati Reds in a 7-0 Cardinals victory, adding one RBI and scoring one run.
On June 3, Burleson discussed his approach to driving in runs following a three-RBI game against the Texas Rangers.
In a separate game against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Burleson hit an RBI single that scored Jordan Walker and cut the Dodgers' lead to 3-1 in the eighth inning.
Despite Burleson's individual production, the Cardinals dropped a game to Cincinnati on Sunday. The Reds won 5-3 when Sal Stewart hit a go-ahead pinch-hit single in the 10th inning.
