Transaction hash

A transaction hash, also known as a transaction ID, is a unique string of characters that identifies a specific transaction on a blockchain.

What it is

A transaction hash is a cryptographic identifier generated for every transaction processed on a blockchain. This hexadecimal string acts like a digital receipt, uniquely representing all the data associated with a particular transaction, including the sender, recipient, amount, and any associated fees. Once a transaction is submitted to the network, a hash is assigned, allowing users to track its status and details on a block explorer as it moves through the confirmation process.

Transaction hashes are critical for verifying the successful completion and details of any blockchain transaction. When sending or receiving crypto, you typically receive a transaction hash to confirm the action. News often cites transaction hashes when reporting on significant on-chain events, such as large transfers or contract exploits. Retail investors use transaction hashes primarily with block explorers to confirm that their funds have been sent or received, check gas fees, and monitor network confirmations.

Why it matters

A transaction hash is your unique receipt for every crypto transaction. You use it to track and verify your transfers on a block explorer
