Deribit will discontinue publishing its daily Proof of Reserves page on Sept. 1, 2026, eliminating real-time customer verification of exchange balances and liabilities.
Approximately 90 percent of client assets have migrated to Coinbase as part of the platform's integration following Coinbase's acquisition in August 2025. Coinbase now acts as custodian for Deribit.
Deribit launched its voluntary PoR page in 2022 using a privacy-preserving binary Merkle tree system. The mechanism allowed clients to verify aggregate liabilities against Deribit's published on-chain wallet balances without exposing individual holdings. Daily updates will end with the infrastructure shift.
Deribit operates under Dubai's Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority framework, effective Jan. 1, 2025. VARA mandates full client asset segregation, a 1:1 reserve ratio and semi-annual independent Proof of Reserves audits. Those requirements remain active.
The exchange said the change does not alter how client assets are held or protected. Daily PoR publication was voluntary—exceeding regulatory minimums. Clients and counterparties can request audited financial statements and due diligence materials directly from Deribit via email.
Deribit is not available to users in the United States or other restricted countries.
