Japan's Metaplanet is establishing its first U.S. operating foothold by acquiring Nasdaq-listed Super League Enterprise for $134.6 million, announced Aug. 18, 2026.

Under the definitive agreement, Metaplanet will contribute 2,100 bitcoin—valued at approximately $132.1 million at announcement—plus $2.5 million in cash. In exchange, Metaplanet receives common stock, preferred shares and warrants, yielding a 96 percent stake in Super League Enterprise.

The gaming media company will be renamed Superplanet and trade under ticker SUPA. The reorientation shifts the company's primary focus from gaming media to digital asset management.

Metaplanet, listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange under ticker 3350, has aggressively accumulated bitcoin since 2023. The U.S. expansion leverages the established Nasdaq as a vehicle to compound its corporate treasury position across multiple jurisdictions.

Metaplanet CEO Simon Gerovich said the deal enables the group to compound a single bitcoin position through a publicly traded platform. The strategy mirrors the corporate treasury model adopted by other publicly traded firms seeking bitcoin exposure without direct holdings limitations.

Mark Palmer, analyst at Benchmark-StoneX, rates Metaplanet a buy, citing its distinct approach to corporate treasury management.
