The Dallas Cowboys are bringing Von Miller home. The team agreed to sign the veteran pass rusher, who spent last season with the Washington Commanders, on a one-year deal. Miller confirmed the signing on social media. Terms were not disclosed.

Miller's arrival gives Dallas a proven edge presence on defense. He arrives as a free agent coming off a stint in Washington, circling back to the franchise where he won a Super Bowl. An experienced pass rusher with championship pedigree is exactly what a contender chases before the regular season opens.

The preseason also delivered brutal injury news out of Minnesota. Safety Jamal Adams, who signed with the Vikings this offseason, suffered a season-ending knee injury during Saturday's preseason game against the New York Giants — a game Minnesota won 13-10. Adams was carted off the field, and the severity was confirmed the following day. He will undergo knee surgery and miss the entire 2026 season.

The loss is particularly painful given Adams' history. He has dealt with multiple serious injuries throughout his career, and this one arrived in a preseason game before the regular season even started. The Vikings now have to reshape their secondary without a player they brought in as a key piece.

The most closely watched storyline across Saturday's preseason games was the Cleveland Browns quarterback situation. Deshaun Watson started and led the offense to 10 points, though he did lose a fumble. Shedeur Sanders came on in the second half, threw an interception and did not lead the Browns to any points. Watson won the day, but neither performance settled the competition.

Sanders was the bigger name heading into the game given his draft profile and the offseason noise around the Browns' quarterback room. His interception and scoreless half won't quiet the debate — it will intensify it. Watson's 10-point outing and the turnover both matter, and neither man did enough to end the conversation.

Out west, Los Angeles Rams first-round rookie Ty Simpson turned heads in backup duty against the Kansas City Chiefs. Simpson completed 21 of 25 passes for 190 yards and two touchdowns — a sharp line for any quarterback, let alone a rookie seeing his first NFL preseason action. He gives the Rams something to monitor as the depth chart develops.

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen did suit up, which is notable given how many top starters sat. Allen played two drives and led his team to 10 points. Matthew Stafford, Patrick Mahomes, Jalen Hurts and Dak Prescott all sat out Saturday and are expected to skip the preseason entirely — standard operating procedure for established starters in August.

In Arizona, rookie running back Jeremiyah Love is dealing with a high ankle sprain and is likely out for the remainder of the preseason. The Cardinals, who selected Love with the No. 3 overall pick in the draft, are hopeful he will be ready for Week 1. Arizona will not rush their top pick back into action for exhibition games.

One lighter note out of Detroit: Lions head coach Dan Campbell made clear he is not giving up the red challenge flag. The NFL changed a rule this offseason to allow coaches to delegate the flag-throwing decision to an assistant rather than handling it themselves. Campbell rejected the option without hesitation. "I'm not giving that flag up to anybody," Campbell said. "No way."

The Browns quarterback competition remains the sharpest story in the league. Watson and Sanders each have more reps ahead of them, and the front office has given no public indication of a timeline for a decision.
